• Do you really play the bagpipe?
Yes, I do.

• Do you travel internationally?
Yes. I've performed in Canada and in Hong Kong.

• Have you done shows in every state in the USA?
No. I've performed in 33 of the 50 states.

• How long have you made music and told stories for a living?
I began performing professionally when I was 19, back in 1977.

• How many instruments do you play and how old were you when you started?
I play seven instruments. I started lap dulcimer when I was five, fiddle when I was eight, guitar when I was ten, banjo when I was twelve, bagpipe when I was thirteen, bowed psaltery when I was fifteen and I'm learning Irish harp now at age forty-seven.

• Do you have any videos? How can we see you perform?
I have a ten minute video demo from a school residency but the quickest thing to do is watch my March 2001 performance at The Kennedy Center:

1. Jennifer is a singer and storyteller with a lifetime of involvement in the folk arts. With Scottish bagpipe, fiddle, sit-down square dancing, Celtic, Appalachian and personal tales, Jennifer Armstrong's performances delight and enthrall audiences of all ages from pre-schoolers to seniors. She is a national touring artist giving performances, workshops and residencies in singing, storytelling and writing. In 1998 she was a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN and on Thanksgiving Day 1999, she and her daughters were interviewed by Noah Adams on All Things Considered

2. Jennifer Armstrong has spent her life writing, singing and making music with fiddle, bagpipe, banjo and words. She is a storyteller, singer, poet and instrumentalist with humor, warmth and grace. She works as an artist-in-residence in folk arts, storytelling and writing as well as a private teacher and a performer across the country. Jennifer was a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in 1998, has been heard on NPR and has seven recordings of music to her credit.
